My work is concerned with the understanding (and subsequent computational modelling) of how neural systems use available visual data to learn about, and behave towards, their environment in a successful way. The intention is to use a biological system's (a bee's) performance on a set of specific tasks in specific visual ecologies (i.e. where the data available is known and strictly controlled) as a fitness environment in which to evolve different functional abilities of an AVA, in other words to direct the evolution of the AVAs towards the performance of a biological system that has already solved many complex visual problems.
