My research looks at occluded facial expressions. I am investigating how missing or occluded data can be accommodated by other sources of information and statistical techniques.
One strand of my work uses a statistical model of a facial expression, based on the positions of certain feature points, such as locations on the lips, eyes, or brows. This model, combined with the positions of a few feature points can be used to estimate the complete facial expression. The other strand of work investigates the extent to which facial expression is related to other physiological modalities, such as breathing and heart rate.
