Fibre Geometry
Determining Fibre Geometry in CT-scans of Fibre-reinforced Concrete
A 2013 VEIV EngD Group Project by Benjamin Champion, Hannah Corcoran and Joep Moritz
Developing a new method for the characterisation of the orientation and position of steel fibres in concrete with three objectives: (1) to develop a new method of thresholding the images; (2) to develop a method to identify an individual fibre; and (3) to measure the orientation of the individual fibre.
Two main methods were used to investigate these objectives. The first method is related to the first-order spatial derivative, the structure tensor. The second method, the Frangi vesselness filter, is related to the second-order spatial derivative.
